Home Fabrics

Each one of our products has gone through a detailed, critical and technical process. From the outer shell of a tent to the strap of a backpack, everything has been designed with dedication. To produce our quality gear, we have chosen – and in some cases, developed – the very best technical fabrics. In this way, our products fulfill the ideals that NIGOR stands for.

Which fabrics does NIGOR use?

Each of our tents is made of a lightweight, waterproof and durable ripstop nylon fly material. The ripstop nylon is bonded with technical and unique Gorlyn nylon, which is available in different densities: 10D, 20D, 30D and 40D. D stands for ‘denier’. This range of densities enables us to create a diverse array of tents, so there will always be a quality shelter to perfectly suit your needs.

What is Gorlyn?

The Gorlyn fabric is made from high-tenacity nylon 6.6, which demonstrates great mechanical strength and resistance to heat and chemicals. It has a higher tensile strength than the regular nylon commonly used in outdoor products. Our Gorlyn fabric is four to five times stronger than other high-end, lightweight fabrics.

With a coating of pure silicone, Gorlyn resists chemical damage. This silicone coating has been applied in three steps: two base layers on the back side and a single layer on the front, resulting in consistently durable, water-repellent protection. As the Gorlyn fabric has a higher melting point than regular fabrics, the heating process of the silicone treatment does not affect the fabric strength.

How is Gorlyn better than other fabrics?

  1. Ultra-lightweight
  2. Waterproof
  3. More resistant to sunlight
  4. Much higher tear strength, depending on the yarn weight (ISO 13937-4)
  5. More compact molecular structure
  6. Higher melting point (256℃)
  7. Superior colorfastness
  8. Excellent abrasion resistance
  9. Highly resistant to insects, fungi, molds and chemicals
  10. Melts instead of burning

Gorlyn nylon has been tested by the TÜV (ISO 13937-4).

We used 10D for the most lightweight tents or accessories and 20D for the three-season models. The 30D is designed for tents suitable for all four seasons and 40D is reserved for expedition tents.

What about the inner tent?

Our inner tents didn’t get any less attention than the outer shell. In order to make the most lightweight tents, we used our signature new fabric, FabVue, for the inner tent material. This fabric is highly impact resistant. This means that if you rip open the zipper in a rush to hide from rain or bugs and accidentally snag the fabric, it shouldn’t be damaged.

All our tents feature the FabVue fabric. It wouldn’t have met our standards if it weren’t extremely lightweight and breathable. For maximum weight reduction in some of our tent models, we even replaced the mesh windows with FabVue.

What about the tent base?

The base of each tent represents our basic principle of customer satisfaction. Therefore, it was important for us to create a lightweight, abrasion-resistant, water-resistant tent footprint. Depending on the model of the tent, the footprint is made from 20D or 40D Gorlyn nylon. For extra durability, we added a laminated thermoplastic polyurethane coating, better known as a TPU-coating, to the Gorlyn. Whether you park your tent on an ant’s nest, poisonous fungi or a wet forest floor, you’ll be protected and ready for adventure.

What do you use for the backpacks?

We at NIGOR put our heads together and designed something to carry the lightweight tent: a backpack. Fully in line with our priority of making gear as light as possible, each backpack is constructed with the technical fabric Dyneema.

Dyneema began life as a fiber, but is nowadays available as a fabric. With an ultra-high strength-to-weight ratio, Dyneema is fifteen times stronger than steel. It floats on water, is resistant to abrasion and moisture and has the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic.

With Dyneema, your heavy hike, difficult climb or intense travel plans are already a bit easier.
